The researchers' study identified a genetically isolated local population that inhabited the vast central and eastern part of the Eurasian Plain about 9,000 years ago.
The discovery uses genetic data collected from five mummies found in Xinjiang's Junka'er Basin and 13 in the Xiaohe Culture's Tarim Basin. Both groups are the oldest human remains discovered in the region. North and South of Xinjiang
Researchers have found evidence of milk proteins in saliva stones of Tarim mummies from the Xiaohe archaeological site. This reflects that the area relied on dairy farming since the arrival of the first population.
Xiao He culture is known throughout the world from “Princess Xiao He”, a well-formed female mummy found in the Taclamakan Desert in the Tarim Basin.
